Filmed in Ullapool during his recent headline tour of the Scottish Island & Highlands, Alex Lleo has this morning shared an acoustic cover version of Laura Marling’s track ‘Once’ to launch his new YouTube channel.

Speaking of the cover idea, Alex says: "I remember hearing the album ‘Once I Was An Eagle’ back in 2013 and instantly falling for the whole concept. The way the first four tracks intertwine to set you up for the journey, was made even more magical by the short film that followed. The song ‘Once’ first struck me after seeing Laura perform it solo at Summersault festival a few years back. The way she was able to convey the sentiment behind the words, with nothing but her nylon acoustic, really gave me some insight into the craft of songwriting. After that show, the record just never quite felt the same. That mixed with the fact she would rarely gig the song, I decided I’d learn it for a bit of fun. During my tour of Scotland last month, I heard a great story from a theatre I was playing in Stornoway about the time Laura played a show for them. On the boat ride back we had the idea of shooting on the water. After stories from the night before, the song was back on my mind and it felt apt for a performance.”

Last month Alex made his Mahogany Session debut, performing two tracks ‘All We Need' & ‘Rise Up’ acoustically on a deserted beach on the Kent coast. Watch the sessions in full on Mahogany here.

Alex’s debut live EP - ‘Park Studios, JQ’ - was released in the spring and featured three tracks, each recorded live in one-take alongside his band. The videos for each track (filmed during each take) premiered on Vevo and you can watch them here.

Spending time in nature - in Worcestershire's Lickey Hills where Alex lives and grew up, the awe-inspiring Scandinavian mountains, and surfing the various coastlines of the British Isles - has shaped Alex’s creative outlook. You can hear his attraction to the natural world, its peace and its drama, in his music, which is exquisitely paced, laid-back and rich in melody.

Alex’s next live show will be alongside his band at Boardmasters Festival in Cornwall on Saturday, 11th August.
