Swimming Tapes / Share New Single 'Easy Strand' Ahead of UK Headline Tour

SwimmingTapes EasyStrand2

Swimming Tapes have today released a brand new single in the form of ‘Easy Strand’. Produced and mixed by the band’s long-time collaborator Paddy Baird, the new track is classic Swimming Tapes with its swirling shoegaze guitar style that perfectly soundtracks an end-of-summer haze and is befitting of a band who signed a global publishing deal with Sub Pop earlier this year.

Speaking about ‘Easy Strand’, the band share: “‘Easy Strand' is a supportive nod to our younger selves about how the passing of time distorts memories. Moments you thought were trivial and pointless actually remain embedded in your memory as beautiful, worthwhile and meaningful times. It was written as part of a collection of songs for our album but when everything was finished we felt it didn’t quite sit right with the other tracks on the record, therefore we’re giving it its own moment in the sun.”

‘Easy Strand’ is Swimming Tapes’ first new material since their ‘Soft Sea Blue’ EP and its release today on Hand In Hive / B3SCI coincides with the band’s return to the live stage for an intimate one-off show supporting HAERTS at Paper Dress Vintage in London tonight.  Having spent the bulk of this year writing and recording, this Paper Dress Vintage show is the band’s first foray onto the live stage in some time and promises a set list of new material, offering a glimpse at what we can expect from their anticipated and soon-to-be-announced debut LP.   Tonight’s intimate support show will be followed by a short run of UK headline shows throughout November. Listings for all upcoming dates are as follows and tickets for all headline shows are on sale now.

The Northern Ireland-born, London-based indie five-piece formed in early 2016 and made waves in 2017, bookending the year with 2 EP releases - ‘Souvenirs’ and ‘Soft Sea Blue’. These 2 EPs earned Swimming Tapes significant acclaim from the likes of Radio 1 (Annie Mac ‘New Names’, Huw Stephens Maida Vale session, Phil Taggart), 6 Music, Beats 1 (Elton John, Matt Wilkinson), plus KCRW and KEXP in the US, as well as significant playlisting support from Spotify.   On the live front, the band have been playing in front of continually growing audiences; selling out two London headline shows (The Waiting Room and The Lexington), playing numerous festivals including The Great Escape, Dot To Dot, Liverpool Sound City, Neighbourhood, and Mirrors, as well as a number of notable support slots playing alongside the likes of Gengahr, Day Wave, Kane Strang, and Cults to name just a few.

Their growing popularity and hard work hasn’t gone unnoticed, as well as their Sub Pop Publishing deal, Swimming Tapes were announced alongside Nilufer Yanya, INHEAVEN and Black Honey as one of twenty UK musicians hand-picked by the PRS Foundation for a round of Momentum Funding earlier this year, awarded to the most promising new artists on the cusp of breakthrough success.
